Four specific measures intended to maximize transparency, accountability, and respect for citizen property rights formed the foundation of my 2014 campaign platform for Garland County Judge. In response, County Judge Rick Davis wrote: “Let me tell you my position on my opponent’s platform. While, they seem like easy things, let me clarify the situation. Ultimately, all the issues that Mr. Herrmann is running on are basically Quorum Court decisions as they would have to find and allocate the money to pay for the things that he is advocating … The QC would have to find and allocate the money to pay approximately $40,000- $50,000 for a website that would have the capability to handle all the documents, court orders, reports, contracts, etc. that Mr. Herrmann is requesting be put online.”
There is good news on this topic. A little research reveals the availability of much lower cost options for hosting a website with “the capability to handle all the documents, court orders, reports, contracts, etc. that Mr. Herrmann is requesting be put online”. Instead of $40,000 – $50,000, the cost of hosting www.garlandcounty.info is a tiny fraction of that earlier projection. There are many competing companies offering user-friendly web-hosting services at relatively low cost. For example, Garland County currently uses Network Solution LLC for registration of the www.garlandcounty.org domain. That same company offers web hosting with unlimited bandwidth and 300 GB of storage for $9.96/mo or $119.52/yr (http://www.networksolutions.com/web-hosting/index.jsp). GoDaddy is currently offering 50% off it’s “Deluxe” hosting plan with unlimited storage and unlimited bandwidth for $4.49/mo or $53.88/yr (https://www.godaddy.com/hosting/web-hosting.aspx?ci=9009).
But there is even better news! The County Judge’s Office and other county offices are now welcome to post all of that aforementioned information on the newly launched website www.garlandcounty.info at absolutely NO CHARGE!
No Quorum Court funding appropriation or other action is needed for this service. With this website, we look forward to making county government information readily available to citizens, taxpayers, and Garland County property owners to an extent that has never occurred before. We do hope for goodwill with the County Judge and other elected officials in this effort. Furthermore, if the County Judge’s Office and other county government information providers would like to be enabled to share items directly to the website, we will be happy to work with them to get that capability set-up.
